Jannik Sinner: World No 2 wins Miami Open to complete historic 'Sunshine Double' without dropping a set | Tennis News

Jannik Sinner made history by winning the Miami Open and becoming the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’.

The Italian defeated Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to make his mark as the first player to win at Indian Wells and Miami in the same season without dropping a set.

Sinner won ‌92 per cent of his first-serve points and saved all three break points he faced en route to a stunning victory.

He has now won 34 consecutive sets at ATP Masters 1000 level and improved his 2026 record to 19-2.

After winning the Miami Open, Sinner left a message for Formula 1’s Japanese GP winner Kimi Antonelli and US MotoGP victor Marco Bezzecchi

“We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I’m really, really happy, ‌and I’m also happy to go back home now,” Sinner said after the match.

“Making the Sunshine Double here for the first time, it’s incredible. It’s something I would have never thought, because it’s difficult to achieve, and we made it somehow, so I’m very happy.”

The world No 2 is only the eighth man to win back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and Miami.

The 24-year-old Italian, who beat Daniil Medvedev last week for his first Indian Wells crown, endured a lengthy rain delay en route to securing his second Miami title.

Lehecka lost his serve for the first time in the tournament to trail 3-1 in the opening set and saved two set points at 5-3 down before Sinner served out to take it in 47 minutes.

Play was suspended for 80 minutes just three points into the second set, but the delay did nothing to dampen Sinner’s clinical performance.

He did not face a break point as he swept through the second set, wrapping up the title in 93 minutes.
