Japanese Grand Prix start delayed due to barrier repairs – RaceFans

The start of the Japanese Grand Prix has been delayed by 10 minutes due to a damaged barrier.

Circuit workers are performing repairs to a barrier at turn 12 – the right-hander between the hairpin and Spoon curve – following a crash in the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan support race.

“The start of the formation lap will be delayed due to barrier repairs ongoing at turn 12 after an incident in a support category,” said the FIA in a statement.

The formation lap prior to the start of the race was originally due to begin at 2pm local time but was put back to 2:10pm. Drivers therefore began their pre-race reconnaissance laps 10 minutes later than planned.

The crash brought a halt to the opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan series. The race was later abandoned.

Footage from the scene indicates one car was launched into the debris fence on the outside of the corner, where it came to rest.
