RCB chased down the target of 202 runs in 15.4 overs on Saturday to win the IPL 2026 opener against SRH at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets in the first match of IPL 2026. In the fixture played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (March 28), RCB chased down the target of 202 runs in just 15.4 overs. By chasing the target of more than 200-plus runs in 15.4 overs, RCB entered their name in the record books.
The Bengaluru-based franchise is the first team in IPL history to chase down a 200+ run target with more than 25 balls to spare. The previous record of the fastest 200+ run chase in terms of balls remaining was in the name of the Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals chased down the target of 210 runs against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 28, 2025, in 15.5 overs and won the match with 25 balls to spare.

For RCB, Virat Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 69 runs from 38 runs in the 202-run chase. He hammered 5 fours and 5 sixes during his stay at the crease and added 101 runs from 45 balls for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal, who amassed a total of 61 runs from just 26 balls (7 fours, 4 sixes). In addition to them, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar also played a super knock of 31 runs from just 12 balls.
Earlier in the first half of the match, Ishan Kishan scored 80 runs from just 38 balls in his first IPL match as captain, and Aniket Verma hammered 43 runs from just 18 balls as a No. 7 batter. Ishan, who walked out to bat at No. 3 in the IPL 2026 opener, smashed 8 fours and 5 sixes and also broke the record of highest score for SRH in the first IPL match as captain.
For RCB, Jacob Duffy picked up 3 wickets on his IPL debut for 22 runs in four overs, and three SRH batters were sent back to the pavilion by Romario Shepherd. However, the West Indies’ all-rounder conceded 54 runs in his quota of four overs.
