Dundee 2 – 2 Dundee Utd

Dundee 2 - 2 Dundee Utd

Dundee came storming back with two dramatic stoppage-time goals to secure a 2-2 derby draw at home to Dundee United.

Following a goalless first half, the Terrors took the lead after the break when the impressive Amar Fatah slotted home a penalty before Luca Stephenson added a second.

Dundee pulled a goal back in the fourth minute of added time through substitute Ashley Hay and then two minutes later snatched a William Hill Premiership point when Terrors skipper Ross Graham put the ball into his own net.

The hosts selected the same starting 11 for the fourth successive game while the visitors made three changes to the team that lost last week to Falkirk in the Scottish Cup, with Neil Farrugia, Iurie Iovu and Fatah coming in for Zac Sapsford, Pan Camara and the injured Kristijan Trapanovski.

United had the first opportunity of the game in the eighth minute when Fatah swung a cross in from the right to Iovu but the big defender sent his header flying over Jon McCracken’s bar when he really should have hit the target.

After that, both sides struggled to carve out chances with the game becoming a typical high-tempo derby.

However, the match burst into life again in the 27th minute. Farrugia hit a long-range shot which flew straight at McCracken, who easily gathered. Dundee headed straight back up the other end and United goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer clawed a deflected Cam Congreve cross from under his crossbar.

Fatah broke from inside his own half in the 42nd minute but as he closed in on the home goal it looked like the chance had gone. However, the ball broke back to the Swede and McCracken made a vital block from his shot.

The keeper came to the rescue again, making a point-blank save from another Fatah strike. McCracken then produced an even better stop, tipping over a ferocious Vicko Sevelj shot.

However, he was helpless to prevent the Terrors taking the lead in the 50th minute, after referee Duncan Nicholson judged that home skipper Simon Murray had handled the ball in the box and pointed to the spot.

Fatah stepped up and kept his cool, sending McCracken the wrong way and his penalty into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season.

The hosts struggled for a response after going behind and the visitors doubled their advantage in the 66th minute. Will Ferry swung a cross in from the left to Stephenson at the back post and the on-loan Liverpool defender sent his header into the back of the net off the underside of the bar.

The game looked to be beyond the home side until Hay stabbed home from close range.

And the unlikely comeback was complete soon after. Fin Robertson delivered a dangerous free-kick into the United box and Graham headed past Maynard-Brewer – to the delight of the home fans.
