Former heavyweight contender Magomed Abdusalamov has displayed the humor and fighting spirit that made him special in new clips shared by his wife, Bakanay Abdusalamova.
The short videos, posted on social media, show Abdusalamov working out at home and showing the personality boxing fans remember from his fighting days.
In one moment, the Russian southpaw smirks toward the camera before giving a cut-throat gesture to a speed bag and unleashing a burst of punches in his trademark powerful style.
The video then continues with Abdusalamov lifting weights before winking toward the camera, a lighthearted moment that shows the former contender has lost none of the humor that once made him a popular figure among fans.

The surroundings also offer a glimpse into Abdusalamov’s life today. Comfortable family surroundings are visible, with his children playing in the background as he continues his routine.
Abdusalamov now lives with permanent disabilities following the brutal ten-round battle with Mike Perez at Madison Square Garden in November 2013.
The fight left the then-undefeated heavyweight with severe brain injuries that required emergency surgery and months of rehabilitation.
In the years that followed, Abdusalamov’s family fought a lengthy legal battle over the circumstances surrounding the aftermath of the bout.
That process eventually led to a 2017 settlement with the State of New York that helped provide long-term support for Abdusalamov and his family.
Fighting Spirit Remains
Despite the life-changing injuries suffered that night, Abdusalamov can still be seen working out and enjoying the moment, a reminder of the personality that once made him such a popular figure in the sport.
Fans who followed his rise through the heavyweight division will recognize the same determination that once made “Mago” one of the division’s most dangerous punchers.
It is no more than Abdusalamov deserves after what he gave boxing fans in the ring that fateful night against Mike Perez — and what he and his family have endured ever since.
